How do I file a claim?
Each State has different regulations on how to file a claim. The
federal regulations are the same in all States. I will try to give you a general idea on
what you have to do and some links to refer to for more information.
The first thing you need to know is that claims can only be filed on
open BLM lands. 90% of the open BLM land is in the West. The first thing you need to do is
to get a map of the area your interested in. Most modern claims are described by Township
and Range. A 7.5 minute map of the area you are interested in will give you the township
and range and section # of the area of interest. The first thing to do is to check with
your local BLM office to make sure the area is not already under claim. Remember if you
file over another claim, they will take your money but you will not have a valid claim! To
save yourself time, money and trouble, make sure your claim is
valid. The BLM fee to file a claim is $135 there will also be a fee to record the claim in
the county where it is located. Remember, you must file with the County and with the BLM
for your claim to be valid. Theese are just afew tips to get you started. For info go to pg12to23.HTM at taren.ns.net.
